GIST Indonesia Boot Camp
Global Innovation Through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative and GEPI are calling all technology entrepreneur to submit application for the GIST Bootcamp Indonesia 2014. It is open to entrepreneur representing various sectors – IT, health, agriculture and energy, younger than three years with less than $1M in revenue and/or funding raised.
The top 30 startups will be selected on a rolling basis for the boot camp. First winner will receive $3000 cash rewards and iPads will be given to second and third place winner. Top 5 participants will receive intense mentorship from leading entrepreneurs and investors from the U.S and most importantly will have the opportunity to increase their network and global visibility.
GIST Bootcamp will be held on April 4-6, 2014;
Day 1: Top 30 startups will receive mentorship and training.
Day 2:Top 30 will be invited to pitch before the mentors.
Day 3:Top 7 out of 30 will be selected to pitch at DEMO DAY before the panel of judges.
GIST DEMO DAY will be attended by over 200 entrepreneurs, investors, techies and other esteemed guests. It will kick off with a keynote address by Jeff Hoffman, Co-Founder and Former CEO of Priceline and CEO of ColorJar. Final awards and further mentorship will be provided to five chosen companies at the conclusion of the GIST DEMO DAY. Register for GIST DEMO DAY here

Application Process
1. Do I need to pay to join this bootcamp?
No, this event is completely free.
2. Can i still join if i only have the idea but do not have startup yet?
Yes. You could still apply to this bootcamp. The judges will review you idea, if the idea are significant and potential you will likely to get invited to the bootcamp.
3. Should my startup already incorporated?
No, your startups doesn’t need to have legal entity to join this bootcamp.
4. Who selects who get in?
The GIST team will select the top 30 who will participate in the boot camp. Down selection of entrepreneurs pitching at the DEMO Day will be done by the Judges at the end of Day two of the boot camp.
5. What should I do to prepare for the Bootcamp?
1) Make a strong application
Though the registration form for the GIST Startup boot camp is simple, you should be aware of its purpose and maximize the opportunities that your responses can help you attain. You should take the time to refine a 1-5 sentence description of your company to clearly illustrate what you are producing. There is an optional area for you to provide more details about your business. Here you may write a bit about your operations, team members, any successes or milestones reached.
2) Familiarize yourself with topics the Boot Camp will cover
We have three presentations straight from the MIT Sloan School of Business that cover entrepreneurial basics. These slides will help you become familiar with the vocabulary and concepts, and also prepare you to ask sophisticated questions that will help you take your business to the next level. 3) Create your elevator pitch
Being able to communicate your venture is key in building partnerships and gaining customers. The importance of communicating about your venture is heightened during the boot camp when you will be surrounded by dozens of mentors, entrepreneurs and potential partners. The elevator pitch will excite others about your venture and open conversations. We suggest you create a 30-60 second elevator pitch. 4) Create a pitch for your venture
Preparing the venture pitch is an exercise in thinking about your business and communicating the complexities and goals of your company. Having a pitch prepared will give you a base for which you can apply the knowledge from the Boot Camp. For the boot camp venture pitching tournament, pitches should last 5 minutes and have an accompanying powerpoint slideshow.

6. When will we know the results? How will I be notified?
The 30 qualfied startups to join the GIST Bootcamp will be announced on March 17, 2014. You will get notified by email when you’re startup is either accepted or rejected. Make sure you put the right email in your application.
7. Who will have access to my application?
Competition managers and judges will have access to applications to verify eligibility. All documents are kept completely confidential.
8. What does “travel scholarships” mean?
We cover travel expenses for 10 startups who being chosen to participate in the bootcamp and live outside Jakarta and Bandung.
9. Is it possible to apply for more than one project at the same time?
No. Only one project under one startup name will be accepted.
Program
1. What will we do on the first day of GIST Bootcamp?
The first day of the two-day program features a carefully designed blend of lectures, group work, and action learning. Topics include Customer discovery, product development, leadership and networking, sales and marketing, business finance and projections, raising capital and more.
2. What is the criteria for venture pitching sessions?
Value proposition
- Problem, solution, business goal, and business model are clearly stated. Appropriate skills of management team, market & competition understanding is demonstated, marketing and sales approach is clear, project is scalable, and financials are realistic.
Presentation skills
- Professional look & feel to presentation, useful and effective of text and graphics, maintained interest
Q&A Skills
- Ability to understand panel questions, substantive answers, honest about lack of information, direct and clear responses, relaxed and assured, think effectively “on the spot”
3. If we won, how long the mentorship and training from leading investors and entrepreneur from US?
The mentorship will last for 2 hours over a span of 3 months. GIST team will match an entrepreneur with a mentor who has skills or insights that would be useful to the entrepreneur. Mentorship is for 3 months, at the rate of up to 1 hour per month. This is at the discretion of the entrepreneur and the mentor. Mentorship will occur virtually.
Pitching Sessions
1. Should I present in English, or is it okay to present in Indonesian?
We accept presentations in English only.
2. How much time is given for the presentation?
Only 2 minutes per startup on the Bootcamp Day
And 5 minutes presentation + 5 minutes QA per startup on the Demo Day
